Live from the Sea-Watch 2: Calmed sea brings Refugee-Boats

The wind at the Central Mediterranean Sea has calmed down and the refugee boats are back on the water. At about 6am our crew spotted the first boat, a small wooden fishing boat with about 28 passengers from Egypt, Morocco, and Bangladesh.

Directly after we had safely brought the group to the Sea-Watch 2, another boat appeared on the horizon. In an action lasting several hours, and supported by the Doctors Without Borders/ Médecins Sans Frontières Burbon Argos, we were able to safely evacuate this rubber boat, carrying 141 people.

A couple of frigates of the EU-Mission EUNAVFOR-MED lingered within sight but contented themselves, once again, with hauling off and disposing the empty boats.

This situation doesn’t solve itself. ‪#‎SafePassage‬ now!
